Weedy | 31cm x 31cm | Oil onto stretched canvas
In this painting: Here is an interpretation of the delicate weedy sea dragon swimming among sea grass. The weedy is an important symbol of the Great Southern Reef of Australia. And, more recently, the sea dragon is also a symbol of resilience in the wake of the harmful algal bloom that swept across our South Australian coast. At the SeaLife aquarium in Melbourne, I could take my time and carefully study the intricate detail in their visual characteristics.

Searching | 31cm x 31cm | Oil onto stretched canvas
In this painting: This painting was on display at the Whyalla Council in 2025.
Between June and August each year, the Australian giant cuttlefish gather in great volumes in search for suitable mates. The dark backdrop could create a sense of mystery of these enigmatic lifeforms. Even though I gathered my own reference material, this painting in particular was composed with the help of photographs by Carl Charter. And thanks to Janine Baker for explaining the behaviour of the scene to me. It was  amazing to experience the cuttlefish first-hand while snorkelling with EMS at Stony Point in the Upper Spencer Gulf. The beauty of the underwater world where they meet in such large numbers is just breathtaking.
